Bromoil, arguably the high point of the pictorialist photography movement, reached its peak in the early part of the 20th century. Later on, the soft painterly qualities of bromoil were replaced by the “super sharp” images as popularized by the f64 club. Today we see a new appreciation for the subtle beauty of pictorialist photography and the Bromoil print in particular, though there are still only a handful of Bromoil practitioners.
“Although a practicing photographer for more than 30 years, I always felt I was “searching” for a quality to my work that proved elusive. It wasn’t until I discovered the historic techniques of Bromoil, and produced my first Bromoil print, that I knew I had found the missing ingredient.”
Terry Halstead
A Bromoil print starts as a fine-art monochorome photographic print. The image is removed and replaced by Lithographic inks applied by brush and roller. Because of the way Bromoil prints are crafted, by hand, each one is as unique from one another as are two oil paintings.
All the prints in this exhibit are available as first edition VE, numbered signed and dated. Please note that even though a print is offered as an edition, each individual print is a unique piece of art.
As well, each print is available as a high quality archival inkjet copy in the original size and signed by the artist for only $25.00 plus shipping.
